with Sumati Ecological Institute
Sumati (सुमति) in Sanskrit speaks of wise and harmonious thought.
Su = good, wise, beautiful
Mati = mind, perception, intention
From such awareness arises a more thoughtful way of living — one that nurtures rather than extracts, listens rather than dominates, and honours the delicate relationships between land, water, people, and the living world.
When we move in rhythm with nature, even our errors remain within the possibility of healing; they do not deepen into lasting harm against soil, community, or life itself.
This is the spirit that Sumati Ecological Institute seeks to cultivate and quietly embody.
FOUNDER STORY
Rachna HemaReddy is the heart behind Sumati Ecological Institute, and this is the story of how her path led to cultivating a place for grounded, regenerative living.
- My journey began with a quiet realization,
that our lives have become disconnected from the very systems that sustain us.
- This led me to the land.
- Through working with the land, I began to see how nature functions with balance and intelligence. And how, when approached with care, land can regenerate and support life abundantly.
- Over time, I recognized that many of these principles are not new, but deeply rooted in India’s traditional ways of living.
- Sumati Ecological Institute emerged from this understanding as a space to bring people back into relationship with land.
We welcome visitors by appointment. Step onto the land, breathe the air, and discover what it means to be truly rooted.
